Latent Semantic Indexing, Varying Anchor Text and Your Internet Home Based Business

Anchor text has always been an important part of SEO for both internal and external linking for the internet home based business. Having a link comprising of written text that is relative to a page it is linking to is a great way to let the search engines learn about the content of that page. And in doing so that will help the page rank on the SERPs.
Over the years, SEO became fixated on single keyword phrases when selecting anchor text particularly if that phrase received a significant amount of search traffic over other keywords. Since that keyword phrase drew significant traffic, it was constantly used as anchor text in all the back links with no variation.

Google spotted this and considered it to be an unnatural way of obtaining backlinks. As such, Google began to punish those websites that used the same anchor text over and over again for all their back linking. One famous example of this was the official PayPal website. Because the same phrase was used in all its anchor text, PayPal was punished by Google. The punishment; PayPal did not rank number one on the SERPs for a search of its own name. That is pretty embarrassing. This issue has since been corrected, but it was a wake-up call for all webmasters to vary their anchor text. Unfortunately not all the webmasters paid attention or they did not fully understand the need to vary their anchor text. As a result, their websites continue to suffer.

These days, overuse of keywords and keyword phrases can lead to some serious consequences with search engine penalties that lead to dropped rankings, which then lead to a drop in traffic for the website. So how do you avoid all this? Simply vary and diversify your anchor text. One proven method in doing so is Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI).

According to SEO Book’s Aaron Wall, “Latent semantic indexing allows a search engine to determine what a page is about outside of specifically matching search query text.” Basically, LSI is identifying synonyms and related keywords to use as variations for your anchor text. This gives a natural look to the link not only to the visitor, but also to the search engine when it crawls your website.

So what this means is that you can have anchor text placed as a link on a web page that does not contain the primary keyword word or phrase. Instead it can have a synonym, so it is now considered varied. When a search engine crawls that anchor text, it will recognize the synonym and give your website credit for the primary keyword or phrase.

How to Find Varied Anchor Text For Your Internet Home Based Business

There are several ways to find varied anchor text. Here is one method that I use.

Using Google Search

·	Identify your primary anchor text (targeted keyword phrase).
·	Go to Google which can be accessed by going to Google.com.
·	Type your targeted keyword phrase in the search box.
·	Complete the search.
·	Once results appear, click on “Related Searches” located in the side bar on the left side of the screen.
·	An assortment of related keywords will appear under the search bar.

The nice thing about these “related” keyword phrases is that Google has identified and recognizes a semantic relationship between them. This makes these words very powerful for you to use as varied anchor text. Also, you can click on each of the results below the search box to identify additional related varied anchor text keyword phrases.

Using the Google Adwords Keyword Tool is another way to find related varied anchor text.

·	Type in Google Adwords Keyword Tool in the search box.
·	Type the anchor text phrase in the “Word or Phrase” section.
·	Type the characters into the box.
·	Click on search.
·	Related keyword phrases will appear in the “Keyword Ideas” section.

Like with Google Search, the results that appear indicates Google has identified those phrases as having a semantic relationship with the phrase you typed into the “Word or Phrase” section. Again, this is powerful for your home based Internet business.

Vary Your Anchor Text When Link Building For Your Internet Home Based Business

I have found LSI to be an extremely simple and effective SEO tool to use for varying anchor text. It is a fact that using the same anchor text phrase repeatedly will give Google the appearance that the link building for your website is unnatural. And the result will be that your website will be penalized.

To avoid any headaches of trying to rebound from a Google slap, always implement an LSI strategy. Build your website’s back links through the use of synonyms and variations of the primary anchor text phrase. Doing so will place your website in a position to rise on the SERPs by allowing it to rank for more keywords phrases. That means more traffic to your website and the potential for more sales.

How To Write A Powerful “About Page” For Your Internet Home Based Business

An “About Page” is something that most people who build a website don’t give much thought to. That is a huge mistake. The power of a well written “About Page” can not be underestimated for your internet home based business. That’s because an “About Page” is actually a great opportunity to establish a relationship with your prospective customers.

People want to have a personal connection when making a purchase from a website. An “About Page” serves as that connection and puts a face on a very impersonal experience. This page gives the visitor an insight as to who you are, why you built the website and what your objectives are. A well written “About Page” is where the visitor develops a bond and trust with your website. That makes the “About Page” one of your website’s most important components.

Here are some of the things to keep in mind when writing an effective “About Page” for your Internet home based business website.

·	Tell Who You Are – Tell a short story of who you are, why you started this website and what your website represents. Write about your values and the value your website is going to bring to your visitors. The information you write must be relative to the subject of your website.

·	What Value Do You Bring – This is probably the most important concept of the “About Page”. Even though you introduced yourself to you visitors on this page, it is not really about you. This is where you softly sell your website to your customers. In other words, why should they choose this website over all the others that are out there? What value are you going to provide? What qualifies you to earn their trust?

·	Limit Writing In The First Person – Limit the amount of times you use the words “Me”, “I”, “Myself”. Write from the perspective of what you can do for your visitor. Utilizing the word “You”, is extremely effective in connecting with the visitor to your website. This sounds like a tough balance of writing in the first person and utilizing “you” on your “About Page”, but remember you want to make that trust connection with the visitor. You want to make them feel this “About Page” has been written specifically for them.

·	Write Like You Are Having A Conversation – If your written text comes across very mechanical and forced, you will lose any chance of connecting with the visitor to your website. When writing your “About Page”, be natural, be yourself and be honest.

·	Include A Picture – Having a picture of yourself, your family, your pet really gives the personalized touch to an “About Page” and humanizes the whole internet experience. It truly lets the visitor into your world and identifies who it is they are going to purchase a product or service from.

·	Identify Yourself – Do not forget to put your full name on your “About Page”. If you are not comfortable using your real name, use a pen name. This does sound obvious, but it is forgotten so many times. Again, this goes to the trust factor you are building with the visitor to your website.

·	Spelling And Grammar Errors – Don’t post a shoddy “About Page”. Incorrectly spelled words and other errors will just show the reader you are sloppy and don’t really care about them.

·	Keep Your “About Page” Current – As things change with you or your website, share that with your visitors. Like with everything else on your website, an “About Page” is a continuous work in progress.

·	Check Out “About Pages” From Other Websites – Doing so will always give you an idea of what your competitors are doing. You may discover some new fresh ideas to add to your “About Page” to keep it unique.

Never Underestimate The Power Of An “About Page” For Your Internet Home Based Business

An “About Page” always attracts people when they visit a website. Speaking for myself, the “About Page” is one of the first pages I visit on a website. I want to see who is behind the business website. Is this a person I can relate to and how committed are they to making my buying experience a pleasant one?

Remember, whatever product or service your website is selling, can always be found on another website. So, a well written “About Page” is a very powerful way to attract and keep visitors on your website. Take your time to write a compelling and commanding “About Page”. Make sure that visitors to your internet home business know that you have what they are looking for and can deliver it better than anyone else on the internet. That will go a long way to making your website a success.

Internet Home Based Business – Tips For Writing Great Content For Your Business Website

It is true that all the hours you spent doing on-page and off-page SEO got your internet home based business to hopefully rank high on the SERPs. But that doesn’t close the deal to sell the product or service you are offering.
If your written page content is mediocre or irrelevant there is a greater possibility that customer visit will not convert to a sale. That is because garbage content on a web page tells the visitor your home business website has very little value to offer them. If the customer has that impression, they will leave your web site in a heartbeat and find another one that offers them what they are looking for.

When it comes to your web site and the pages it contains, content is king. Well written content is what draws in the people that visit your web site and doesn’t let them go. Your content tells them that they have come to the right place to get their problems solved. You have the answers they seek. They can trust you and they need go nowhere else to buy the product or service they are looking for.

The following suggestions for written content are what I have found to engage customers not only to keep them on your Internet home based business web site, but to have them return time and time again.

·	Interesting Content – Do not write like you are preparing a service manual. Keep your written content informative as well as enjoyable and light. When you write, always be engaging and think of what would it takes to convince you to buy this product or service.

·	Organize Content – Make sure the information presented on a web page has an organized flow to it. Like a story it has a beginning, middle and an end. Written content that is all over the place will bring no value to the visitor.

·	Use Sub-Headings – Divide the page text into sections using sub-headings. The sub-headings will relate to the subject of the content in the paragraph(s) that follow. It also lets the visitor know ahead of time what they are going to be reading. In essence it is a tease so make the sub-headings catchy.

·	Short And Sweet – Do not drone on paragraph after paragraph so it becomes a chore to read the content. People these days do not have the patience to read a dissertation. They do not want to work hard when reading a web page. So, grab their interest, give them relevant information, get to the point quickly and never drag out a sales pitch.

·	Eliminate Unnecessary Sentences – If a sentence doesn’t add value to a paragraph, eliminate it. Quantity does not equate to quality.

·	Reading Ease – Do not use “big words”. There is no need to show how smart you are when writing text for a web page. Use basic language and simple sentences. The goal is to keep the visitor engaged on the web page.

·	No Errors In Grammar – If there are grammatical errors in your page text, visitors will get the feeling you really don’t care about your Internet home web site.

·	Short Paragraphs – People who visit web pages like to see written content that is given to them in short paragraphs. Long paragraphs, as well as they may be written, are turn-offs and will cause visitors not to read the content. In order to keep the attention of the visitor, each paragraph should be no longer than four to five sentences. Also, do not make any of those sentences long. Keep them short and succinct.

·	One Concept Per Paragraph – When visitors land on a web page, they don’t read. Instead they scan. So to make it easier for them to grasp what you are writing about. Have short, one concept paragraphs.

·	Lists – Each line of a list that is on your web page should contain no more than ten words. Also, do not make the lists long. Again, you do not want to lose the attention of the visitor. Keep it short and succinct.

Here are some additional suggestions to keep in mind when writing content for your Internet Home Based Business Website.

·	Use Readable Fonts – Fancy fonts will make it difficult for visitors to read the written text. They will get frustrated and leave. The idea here is to make it an enjoyable experience for the visitor so they stay on the page. Use Arial or any other font that provides easy readability. As information, Google uses Arial font.

·	Main Points Of Webpage – Always position the most relevant facts or written content as near to the top of the page as possible. This can be used to entice the visitor to read on.

·	Page Content Loads Quickly – Most visitors to a web site do not have patience to wait for slow loading content and they will leave. To the extent possible make sure your page content loads quickly.

·	Call To Action – Serves as a prompt to tell the visitor why they are on that web page. In essence you are telling the visitor what to do. The call to action should be clear, decisive and relevant to the overall objective of the web page which is to buy your product or service. Call to action should be written into the page text more than once.

·	Check The Page Content – Always read over the written content of the page to make sure it is readable, relevant and free of errors, especially typos. Same as with errors in grammar, you do not want to give an impression that you do not care about your web site or the experience of the reader.

·	Original Content – Always make sure your content is original and unique. Copying and pasting someone else’s written content onto your web page can cause all sorts of problems.

Writing Great Content For Your Internet Home Based Business Is Necessary For Success

As you noticed, I did not discuss the SEO part of page text. The reason is because I wanted to give full attention to just the written text itself. Writing page text properly, making it interesting and keeping that visitor on your page is what is going to make that sale. All the SEO in the world can’t produce a sale for you if your content is garbage.

Like everything else with a home based internet business, writing great page content takes time and it can be difficult. But if you give information to the visitors of your web site that is relevant, interesting, provides value, is easy to read and keeps them on that web site, you have a better chance of making a sale. That’s when all the hard work pays off.

Your Home Based Internet Business Needs To Research The Competition – Here’s 5 Ways

Researching your competitor’s website is extremely important if you intend to have any success with your home based internet business. It is just as important and goes hand-in-hand with your market research, business plan and mission statement. Researching the competition completes the foundation of your overall Internet business strategy. The results of your research will tell you what you need to do to out rank your competitors. Outranking your competitors in the SERPs will place you in a position of prominence so potential customers will visit your website.
There are a lot of ways to research the competition.

Just a few suggestions to research your Internet Home Based Business Competitors:

Determine The Keywords Your Competitors Are Targeting – Make a list of the related keywords or phrases that your research has shown customers would use to search for the product or service you are going to offer on your Internet business website. Once you have a list of keywords, do a Google and Yahoo search for each keyword. Take the top three competitive sites from each of the search engines for each keyword or phrase. Open the page for each of the top three sites. With Explorer, find “View” on the top of your browser and then click on “Source”. The HTML code for that page will appear. Somewhere near the top of the coding will be a line entitled “keywords”. There you will find all the keywords and phrases that page is ranking for. If you have Firefox, find “Tools”, then click on “Web Developer” and finally “Page Source”. You can also obtain that information by going to “Tools” and clicking on “Page Info”. Now you know what keywords your Internet Home Business competition is targeting. By targeting those keywords you should be able to rank higher than any site currently below position three on the page.

Google Alerts – This is an easy way to determine what your competition is doing. Set up the alerts so that you get e-mail notifications relating to the top three ranking competitors. Doing so will provide you an alert every time your competition gets a mention on the internet and you can see what they are up to. You can set this up to receive alerts for the keywords and phrases you are trying to rank for. Also, you can receive alerts for your home business website to see is there is any buzz about it on the internet.

Monitor Your Competitor’s Traffic – Information relating to website analytics for your competitors can be found on Alexa.com and Quantcast.com. These sites provide an overview of unique visitors, length of stay, pages viewed, rankings (worldwide and U.S.) and some demographics related to individuals visiting the websites of your competitors.

Analyze Backlinks of Your Home Business Competitor – When analyzing your competitor’s websites, you need to look at the quality of the backlinks and where they are coming from such as directories or educational websites. Identify which links are high quality and high authority websites. Also identify those links that are coming from blogs or other publications. A good tool to use for checking backlinks is Majestic SEO, which has both a free and paid version. This will give you a clue of where they are getting some of juice to keep their website ranking high on the SERPs.

Competitor’s Websites Strength and Weakness – Having this information will let you know how your website stacks up compared to the competition. For strengths, determine if the website provides for a good customer experience. As an example, check the following: does the website look professional, is the written content on point and interesting, is navigation on the website easy and are the menus clearly marked and understandable. For weaknesses, note what shortcomings each website has when compared to other competitor’s Internet home business websites.

Researching The Competition For Your Home Based Internet Business Is A Must

I can not emphasize enough the importance of researching your home business competitors. The intelligence you gain from this research is invaluable. It is does take a long time to do, it is tedious and it is time consuming. But believe me, when you see the results, you will realize it was truly worth the time and effort. Those results will give your home based internet business a higher ranking on the SERPs than your competitors. That translates to greater visibility and traffic to your website. And ultimately puts your website in a better position to make money.

Your Internet Home Based Business Will Be De-Indexed From Google For Black Hat SEO Tactics

Generally everyone knows that if Google catches an Internet home business website using black hat tactics, that website in all probability will get banned or de-indexed. Yet, it is amazing when you look around the internet to see how many black hat marketing tactics are being promoted. It is even more amazing that a huge number of internet entrepreneurs still buy into the fact that these tactics can beat Google and help their website rise on the SERPs. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Here is a list of some of the black hat tactics I think your home based Internet business website should avoid to keep you home business from getting penalized or banned by Google.

·	Cloaking – Two different versions of a page of a website are presented. One version is visible to human visitors and a second it visible to the search engine spiders. This is done to trick the search engines and the visitors to the business website.

·	Doorway Pages – These are web pages that are hidden from a visitor. They are solely created to trick search engine to index and increase the rank of the page. Doorway pages are jammed with keywords that only the search engine can identify. Because they are of no value to a visitor to the website, the search engine will consider them to be spam. As such, the value of the web page will be greatly diminished.

·	Content Scraping – The process by which a person copies content from another website and pastes it into their website. Basically they pass the content off as their own on their business website.

·	Hidden or Invisible Text – This is similar to keyword stuffing. Keywords are written on a page in the same color as the background. Even though the words are invisible to the human eye, the search engine spiders will see them when they crawl the page. Another method is to write the keywords so small on the page that they are undetectable to the human eye, but again can still be seen by the spiders.

·	Keyword Stuffing – Placing as many keywords as you can anywhere and everywhere on a webpage. Google prides itself on a visitor or surfer having a good experience when visiting a webpage on the Google search engine. That means keywords should be written into the page content in a natural way. Keyword stuffing does not provide a good user experience because the written content will not have a natural flow or be readable. If Google identifies a high percentage of keywords on a page in relation to the overall written content, that page will be penalized.

·	Automated Submission Back Linking Software Programs – No matter what you may hear, Google does not have any love for automated submission sites no matter what they are. Google is all about building backlinks built naturally and are relevant to the business website. Secondly, most of these automated programs do not work and are a waste of money. A majority if not all of the links that are promised are pure garbage bordering on spam. They will add no value to your website and can get your website punished if you link to them.

Using Black Hat Tactics Can De-Index Your Internet Home Based Business

Using black hat tactics can benefit your internet home business. They do work for the most part in getting a website to quickly rank high on the SERPs. However there is a major problem. The high ranking for that website will only be for a short period of time. It may take a while but Google will catch up to a business website that uses black hat tactics and quite possibly de-index it. Also, like Google or not, deceiving and manipulating a search engine is unethical.

In the long run, there is no way Google is going to be outsmarted. They update their algorithms constantly to de-index websites that use black hat tactics. And once a website is de-indexed all that hard work and time that was put into planning and creating that website is gone. And so is any chance of making money with that home business website.

Negative SEO Can Affect Your Internet Home Business

There you are working away on your website doing all the on-page and off-page SEO. Slowly your internet home business has been working its way up in the rankings and traffic has been steadily increasing. Things are going pretty good and you are proud of all you have accomplished. Suddenly, you notice your website is dropping like a rock on the SERPs and your traffic has fallen off. You check all your SEO, internal links, keywords, tags, etc. Everything is in order and you still can not figure out why your website is dropping like a rock. Well, unfortunately it could be due to negative SEO.

I don’t want to sound like an alarmist, but negative SEO is very real because there are some nasty people out there who use it to sabotage other websites. Basically negative SEO is when someone, usually a competitor, obtains a truck load of “spammy” worthless links and intentionally directs those links towards a website. The theory is the website which now gained the “spammy” links will be punished by Google which will then allow the competitor’s website to rise on the SERPs. Needless to say, negative SEO is totally unethical and considered by many to be the foulest of the “black hat” schemes.

Your Internet Home Business Website Needs To Closely Managed For Bad Links

Google has always maintained that a website’s ranking on the SERPs can not be negatively impacted by “bad” links. Additionally, Google has long stated that a competitor can do no harm to another’s website in ranking or cause a website to be removed from the index. However, if some link hanky-panky is noticed on a website, Google Webmaster Tools has a “Notice of Detected Unnatural Links” which states in part, “We’ve detected that some of your site’s pages may be using techniques that are outside Google’s Webmaster Guidelines. Specifically, look for possibly artificial or unnatural links pointing to your site that could be intended to manipulate PageRank. Examples of unnatural linking could include buying links to pass PageRank or participating in link schemes.” Basically what this is saying, Google will come after you and your website whether you are responsible for those “spammy” links or not. From this message it appears that as far as Google is concerned, it is the result that matters not the cause. I am not criticizing Google in any way here; I just want to make the point that negative SEO may have a harmful impact on your website in the eyes of Google.

Interestingly enough, with Google and other search engines, “spammy” links do not affect all websites the same. For example, take a site like Zappos which has a huge number of quality backlinks and quite a bit of authority. Because of that as well as its quick page loading time and top notch site design, Zappos can absorb a lot more “spammy’ links, keyword stuffing, etc., before it will register a hit from Google for negative SEO. On the other hand a smaller website, especially one just starting out that is not considered an authority, has fewer quality backlinks, not much content, etc., will have a lower threshold before negative SEO would have an effect on it and subsequently be noticed by Google. It may not be fair, but websites that have size, quality, authority and a stronger overall presence on the internet will be given a lot more leeway by Google before they are called on the carpet.

There are some other negative SEO tactics that are considered “black hat” you need to be aware of for your Internet Home Business Website. Here is a list of the more common ones.

Submitting Spamming Reports To Search Engines – Having your website reported as spam can result it being de-indexed.

Submitting Fake Negative Reviews of Your Website – Negative reviews are posted on your website and then reported to the search engine. This can result in the search engine removing your website.

Website Hacking – Viruses, malware, spam or linking your website to spam websites are methods used to lower the site’s ranking on the SERPs or have it banned by the search engine. In some instances, the website’s code is manipulated so the site can not be seen by the search engine spiders when they crawl.

Spam Blogs – These blogs which contain duplicate or copied content are linked to your website. The blogs are opened under phony accounts with the sole purpose of getting your website punished for having bad links and duplicate/copied content.

Duplicate Spam Website – An extremely “spammy” website is launched utilizing a URL that is very similar to yours. Sometimes the same domain register and hosting company as well as the contents of your home page, interior pages and meta tags are copied. After doing this, the website that has just be created is purposely sabotaged with the ultimate goal being to get it banned by the search engine. After that is accomplished, a 301 redirect to your website is set in place. Needless to say, your website will sink on the SERPs into the abyss.

Getting A Website’s Adsense Account Suspended – Google adsense adverts for a website are repeatedly clicked on until the account is suspended. This unfortunately is not that difficult to do.

False E-mails Submitted To Remove Quality Links – E-mails, supposedly authored by you, are sent to the quality websites that your website has back links to. The e-mails request the links to your website be removed. With removal of quality links the website’s ranking will fall on the SERPs.

It really does take a certain kind of person to do negative SEO to websites, but like I mentioned, they are out there. With that said, here is a list if some of things you can do to help protect your Internet Home Based Business Website from negative SEO.

Quality Links Only – This is very important. If you falsely created your ranking through shady link systems or “spammy” sites, your website is exceedingly susceptible to negative SEO. By doing that your website is exposed for someone to essentially sink your website off the SERPs chart. With Google, links are what makes your website float, because links are king with Google. In other words, the quality of your links plays a big part in determining your reputation with Google. Also, if for some reason you are ranking well in Google with artificial links, keep an open eye, because a competitor who wants your position on the SERPs will figure it out if Google hasn’t gotten to your website yet. And when either or both of them do, your site is going down. To prevent this, stay with “white hat” link building to quality websites or directories. This goes a long way to build your credibility with Google. If some negative SEO does occur, it will be easier for you to spot and take care of.

Watch The Ranking Of Your Website – Set up a schedule to check the search engines regularly to see the ranking of your website. If you see that is falling in the SERPs or you can’t find your website in the listings, you will be able to investigate to determine the reason and correct it before too much damage is done.

Good Website Design – Your website should be designed so that anyone visiting it will have a quality experience. The website should have quality content, be relevant to the keywords and tags. Also the navigation on the website should be simple and easy for anyone to use. Ideally, no one should have to click more than about two times to get to the page they want. This will all improve the performance of your website and if any negative SEO takes place on your website, Google will hopefully see that you are focused on making your website relevant and a good experience for visitors, not a “spammy” website.

Google – Webmaster Tools can provide information relative to your websites visibility. This tool can also assist with reviewing your website and identifying any issues. You can also review data relating to external links to your website. Basically, Google Webmaster Tools can give you a heads-up if anything unusual occurs on your website. If you notice any negative SEO aimed at your website, it might behoove you to contact Google and advise them of the situation.

Protect Your Home Based Internet Business From Negative SEO

Can you protect yourself totally from negative SEO? Probably not, but I firmly believe that if you do both your on-page and off-page SEO the proper way you will be in a better position to detect when this is happening to your website. Make sure the content on each of the pages of your website is 100% unique and useful to those who visit. Ensure your website has a clean design, is simple to navigate for visitors as well as the search engines and interlink your interior pages. Make sure your keywords, phrases, all your tags, etc., are relevant and done properly. This is not everything you need to SEO your website correctly, but you get the idea.

Using “spammy” backlinks to climb on the SERPs will work for a while but eventually you will be found out by the search engines and be a prime contender for negative SEO. And with that, any dream you had of making money from the website will still remain a dream. That’s because your website will be done in the eyes of Google. Building quality backlinks from different sources using various anchor texts can go a long way in helping your website ward off the effects of negative SEO. Quality backlinks will greatly aid in getting the content of your website pages indexed and show the search engines your website is reputable.

Protect Your Own Internet Home Business Website By Managing SEO Campaign Closely

The best way you can cope with negative SEO is to focus your energies on creating amazing page content and building quality backlinks for your website. It is also important you check your website often to ensure that a negative SEO campaign is not being waged on your website. Doing so will go far in establishing you as an authority for your niche and give you credibility. And keep you ranking well on the SERPs so potential customers can see your website.

Protect Your Internet Home Based Business By Detecting SEO Scammers

SEO scammers are thriving and have no conscious when it comes to taking advantage of an inexperienced entrepreneur who is just starting out with his or her own Internet home based business. These guys will promise the world when it comes to doing SEO for your website. They will say all the right things to lure you in. They will be your new BFF (24/7 man, you can count on me). Join their crew and you will rank high in the SERPS virtually overnight, and it will rain money on your parade day and night. Hearing all this tripe, a naïve entrepreneur is usually swayed to sign the contract which requires a hefty upfront fee and more than likely recurring monthly fees. And what does the entrepreneur get in return? Not what was promised that’s for sure, other than being tied into a terrible expensive contract that in actuality is filled with deceiving and misleading wording. And to add insult to injury, the SEO work performed is shoddy and totally ineffective for your home based business.

I know this all sounds like some kind of rant, but the garbage that SEO scammers pull on people really boils me. Here’s why. I have been building websites and doing SEO since the late 1990’s and as farfetched as the above scenario seems, it does happen time and time again. And even though I referenced an inexperienced entrepreneur above, it happens with great frequency to experienced website owners also. I have seen it happen and continue to see it happen practically everyday.

Here is a list of some of the tactics SEO scammers use to get their hooks into your home based internet business

·	Promise That Your Website Will Be Indexed Within 48 Hours – No one can promise you that without first taking a look at your website and performing an analysis on it to see how it is structured. The root of all SEO is research to determine the quality of a website. The quality of the content and how your website is structured are just some of the keys to attaining a good position in the SERPs.

·	Promise That They Can Get Around Google’s Algorithms – One word, ludicrous. Google has a team of engineers who work on the algorithms that make Google tick. And they are constantly updated, sometimes several times in a seven day period. Even if someone was able to get around the algorithm, it would be outdated in a matter of days.

·	Promise To Update The Meta Tags Of Your Website – This is actually basic SEO that anyone can do. There are SEO companies that charge big bucks for doing this and truthfully, it is the absolute minimum any respectable company can do. A more effective process would be to have an SEO company provide a website assessment providing recommendations to improve your Internet home based website and the reasons for doing so.

·	Promise To Submit Your Website To Hundreds Of Search Engines – Truth is there are three major search engines, Google, Yahoo and Bing, which are used by 75% of the people in the United States. Even if you increase the scope of those three search engines worldwide, they encompass a majority of the search traffic. So if there are still hundreds of search engines remaining to share 25% to 30% of the residual search traffic, what percentage of the overall searches is each one getting. Although there are a few good search engines remaining, a lot of these other search engines are considered “SPAM centers”, which are pure rubbish.

·	Promise Of Hundreds Of Links To Your Website – First off, most of these links are probably low quality links and will do nothing for your website as far as ranking well on the SERPs. In addition, the technique used for this claim is to build links rapidly, which is considered “black hat”. So you got a double whammy going against you, lousy low quality links delivered by a “black hat” technique. This not only can destroy the credibility of your website, building links in this manner can get you banished by Google. Believe me; the Googlebots are much smarter than these SEO guys no matter what they claim.

·	Promise Of Getting 500 Directory Links For Your Website For A Mere $50.00 – Think about it, this comes out to ten cents per link. What kind of quality link do you think you are getting for ten cents? In order to improve your position on the SERPS you need to get quality backlinks for your Internet home based business website and this “offer” will not give you that.

·	Promise Of A High Page Rank In A Short Time Period – If any SEO company presents this as a promise to you, they are lying. Google’s ranking process is not done daily. It usually takes months to get a page of your website ranked and this is if you are doing SEO, both on-page and off-page, properly. It also depends on the strength of the other sites you are competing against. SEO is a constant ongoing process and can not be rushed. If it is, it is being done poorly.

·	Promise They Have Inside Information From Google – All Google employees sign a confidentially agreement which, if violated, would land that person in a whole heap of trouble. I have heard that Google page ranking algorithm has in excess of 200 deviations. A good number of those variables are virtually impossible to decipher and get over on. More importantly, if an SEO company hands out that claim to you, there is an excellent chance they are a fraud.

·	Promise to Get A Presence For Your Website On Social Media – A lot of SEO scammers will insist that your website needs to be on social media sites in addition to a blog. That is all well and good but it will not help your website if the page is not constantly updated. Also, if a true community of followers is not developed this plan will fail. Most of these SEO scammers will place worthless content on the pages which will adversely affect your rankings and your traffic. The only person who can keep on top of social media outlets and do them properly is you.

·	Promise Of Low Fees To Optimize Your Website – High quality SEO takes a huge amount of time to analyze and optimize a website as well as monitoring the website to ensure the work that was done is effective. This means that good SEO costs money. Anyone who is charging you a low flat fee or a low recurring fee is really going to do nothing to improve the SEO of your website. If you can not afford to pay for quality SEO work on your website, then learn how to do it yourself. You truly will be better off doing it that way rather than getting the work done by some dubious SEO company.

SEO Scammers Don’t Care About You Or Your Home Based Internet Business

SEO scammers do not care about helping you achieve success for your Internet home based business. They are only interested in one thing and that is getting your money. They go through great lengths to make their website flashy to catch a person’s attention. They know what text to write to lure a person in and get them hooked. These guys actually study buying behaviors and know how to fashion a website to get interest. They know how to write seductive text. They work on their sales pitch and make it super smooth should anyone speak to them on the telephone.

Here is a simple first test to do if you have contact with an SEO company to determine if they are legit. Ask questions. In fact, ask a lot of questions. If the person does not answer your questions or deflects, this is not the company for you. If the person you are speaking to only talks about what their company can do for you rather than asking about you, your business, your website, etc. or listening to your concerns, they have no interest in you or your business. Well actually they do have an interest in you. That interest is how quickly they can part you from your hard-earned money. My advice to you is to run away from that company as fast as you can.

I have seen how these scammers operate and I have heard so many sad stories from those who have done business with them. The best advice I can give you is to do your homework and educate yourself. The internet is full of information about every aspect relating to on-site and off-site SEO. You don’t need to have a detailed understanding of every aspect. But educate yourself to the point where you have a general understanding of what is entailed with SEO. And so you can pick up on when someone is trying to sell you a truck load of garbage.

If you are serious about starting an Internet home based business and serious about making money from this business, then you have to take the time to educate yourself. Do not do business with these scammer companies. Otherwise you will give these guys a license to pick your pockets clean.

7 Ways To Update Your Home Based Internet Business

In order for a business especially a home based Internet business to be successful today it has to be flexible and have the ability to adapt quickly to changes in the market. So many brick and mortar businesses that were extremely successful in the past based on a business model drawn up fifteen or twenty years ago are struggling today or out of business. Part of the reason is they did not acknowledge changes in the different buying patterns of customers or utilize updated marketing techniques. Or they thought their brand name alone was strong enough to keep their customers buying and fend off the competition. Some business failed to see the power of mobile websites to keep up with consumers who want information easily accessible no matter where they are.

The same holds true with your home based internet business. Just because you have done the proper on-site SEO, done all your back linking, article writing, internal linking and have a great position on the SERPs today does not mean it will be there tomorrow. On-site SEO does not run on auto pilot. Your Internet business website must be fine-tuned every few months and receive a major review every six to eight months.

Here are some suggestions on how to update & improve the SEO of your Home Based Internet Website

·	Revise Page Titles – An important piece of a webpage as far as SEO goes is a website’s title tag. This is the web page information that appears in the title bar of a search engine’s browser. Updating the page titles of your Internet business website is an easy and effective means to improve the SEO of your website. Each page of your website should have a different and unique page title that contains the targeted keywords relative to that page. This means keywords used in the page titles for that page must appear on that page. Also, to be effective, I suggest the page titles be less than 60 characters.

·	Page Content – Ask yourself these questions: has the page content of your website become outdated and is it still readable? Have market conditions changed for this product or service where the current written content reflects what direction you are going? Is the information still relevant? If you have outdated, old, stale content, no one is going to read the pages of your website let alone buy anything you are offering. If your content is dated, re-write it. Remember, content is king. Re-writing your Internet business website will provide you a fresh way to converse with your customers. As always, write content that is in a simple conversational format that stays on point and provides value. In addition search engines like it when websites update content.

·	Access Keywords – Picking the right keywords for a website is an ever evolving process. What targeted keyword that was driving traffic to your website six months ago may not be doing you a bit of good now. As such, you should periodically determine which of the keywords are performing for your site and which are not doing so well. Poor performing keywords can be due to a change in search patterns by potential customers, new terminology or there has been a change in the overall market for your product or service. For those keywords that are not performing well; replace them and find a new set of keywords to target.

·	Update Appearance – Your Internet business website is an extension of your persona, so make it interesting and a place people will want to visit and linger. If it looks old, cluttered and is not easy to navigate there is a good chance very few people will want to visit your website. First and foremost your website must look professional with a good design. The pages of the website must have inter-linking that is easy to identify and negotiate. Make sure the information is current on each page and relevant. Make sure each page does not contain more written content or images than is necessary.

·	Optimize Pictures and Graphics – Search engines can not index graphics and pictures in the same manner as text. If you identified the pictures or graphics on your website by the file name, for example ABC12345.jpg, this does not provide any guidance to the search engine as to what it is. One way to counter this is to identify your images with keywords or phrases so that it can be identified by the search engine.

·	Mobile Internet Business Website – More and more people are purchasing smart phones and tablets. They are using those devices to access the internet in ever growing numbers. People who use mobile devices are more prone to be interested in a website if it has been “mobile-optimized”. They are less engaged when they visit a website that has not been “mobile optimized”. So the questions are: Can the pages of your website be easily viewed on one of these devices? Is it easy for those who access your website on a mobile device to be able to clearly and quickly obtain information from your web pages? Most important question; with the exploding growth in this sector of internet access, can you afford not to tap into the mobile device market?

·	Page Content – If each page of your website does not have adequate relevant and unique content, if some of the content from one page bleeds onto other pages, there is a very good possibility Google will slap you for duplicate content. Agree with it or not, Google can and will do it. A slap from Google will water down all the content you have and can harm your position on the SERPs. To prevent this from happening, review each page of your Internet business website to ensure the content is relevant and unique.

Always Re-Evaluate The SEO Of Your Home Based Internet Business

The suggestions I provided above are by no means all the options available to update your home based internet business. On-site SEO of the pages of your website is an ongoing process and the guidelines are constantly changing. Search engine are always modifying their algorithms. A website that stays current with SEO best practices will have a better chance to rank well in the SERPs.

Also, you are in the home based Internet business and in your business you have competitors. If you want to stay in business and grow your market share, then you need to remain competitive and stay ahead of the curve. So, in order for your website to remain relevant and competitive you must conduct on-site SEO of your home based website at least twice a year. And you have to be honest in your review. Not doing so can end your career as an internet entrepreneur.

So how do you produce links for your own online adult home business? My answer is any way you can. There are certainly some ways that are proven winners and all links are not created equal but some are more difficult to produce than others. In this article we are going to examine three different ways you can produce links at low cost for your online home business website. Yes, there are ways to do this on the cheap but it all comes down to understanding a bit about links, understanding a bit regarding how Google assigns authority to links and understanding that you are not going to ever understand everything about them. You need to know the basics and need to be put in touch with the correct people to assist you in your link building campaigns. These 3 ways to produce links will work wonders for you but again you need to put in the time to make it happen.

Producing Links For Your Own Online Home Based Adult Business

1. Buying One way links - Yes you can purchase one way links and if you do this correctly you can do well. One way links are not reciprocal links just meaning you don’t link to someone to get them to link to you. One way links allow you to obtain a link from someone without having to link to them first. These are much better than reciprocal links because of just that you don’t have to give up anything to get the link. How do you get these? Many times you purchase them on the cheap if you can from other webmasters for a set period of time. Some can be permanent, some 1 year, some you might rent monthly. All depends on the deal you cut. If you want to think about this way, you are advertising your site on someone else’s site. You can also produce one way links by writing articles and submitting them to article directories such as articledashboard, ezinearticles, goarticles, ezinemark, etc… or you can submit to forums or message boards where you would be posting answers to questions or commenting on someone’s site or even asking a question about your website and leaving some anchor text in your link that will take the surfer to your site. Another way is to read adult blogs from other online home based business owners and place a comment kissing their ass regarding how wonderful their informative blog is and how you are going to link to them because having the knowledge from this blog will be very useful to your readers. Some of these can be time consuming but if you have a long-term outlook they will pay off. Make sure you check the inbound link quality of the sites you are going to purchase a link to before you waste your money. Send me an email with any questions you have before you spend a penny at jt@jtsec.com

2. Producing Three way links - How to produce 3 way links is a question I get at least daily. Some people think this is brain surgery but it is not at all. It is actually a very basic concept that everyone should use. Please Note: You have to own two sites to perform this form of linking. The concept is simple; here goes:

My sites are A and B
Your site is site C

My site A links to your site C giving you a one way link.
Your site C links to my site B giving me a one way link.

This way we both get one way links coming in to one of our sites but I have done you one better because I am actually working on building links to my site B by sacrificing my site A.

In other words my site B is receiving a one way link.
At the same time my site A is taking a hit by giving you a one way link.

Your site C is receiving a one way link from my site A which I don’t care about because I am only attempting to obtain one way links for site B.

You are happy to receive the one way link and you see it as a win for both parties and to some extent it is but the bigger picture is that I am building one way links to site B and site B does not have to give up a thing to get the one way links coming in.

To sum it up the three way link:

B gets link from C
C gets link from A

All parties happy!!!

Remember what I am doing is sacrificing my site A to build up links to my site B. I do this with 100 people and I have now built up 100 one way links coming in to site B. That is a hell of an accomplishment and all I did to get this was Identify people I want to have link to me by using some software and sending an email to them requesting to give them a one way link while receiving one from them to site B. Please don’t confuse this with reciprocal linking because it is nothing even similar. With reciprocal linking my site B would have to give up a link to receive one.

3. Hiring someone to produce links for you - Simple. You pay someone to do the work for you. But how do you do this? Where do you look for someone? Honestly sometimes the person finds you which is not always that good. What you want to do is to post on message boards and forums such as digitalpoint or warrior forum, xibz or host search forums and also post an offer to hire someone to perform the linking for you on sites such as freelancer, elance and odesk which are my favorites. This way people get to bid on the project that you post. You can hire someone to produce one way links for you for example 25 one way links for Only $100 – $300 depending on the bidders. It truly comes down to how much work these freelancers have thrown at them at the moment. If there is some downtime they will take an account because they basically just need the income coming in. So if you catch them at the right time you can get a very good deal. Just make sure you work with someone that has reviews just meaning they have done work for others especially the type of work you desire them to do for you. Read each review carefully.

A search engine optimized (SEO) press release is an inexpensive and effective way to increase targeted traffic to your home based internet business. Top marketers have been using this tactic for their clients for some time with great success. And there is no reason you can not use it for your Internet business website.

The premise is simple. Write your press release in such a way that it will rank well in the SERPs for specific keywords and phrases. Through links placed on the press release, traffic is directed to your website. This builds quality backlinks to your Internet business website which will improve your website’s position on the SERPs. Having an improved position on the SERPs will result in more people seeing and subsequently visiting your website. And the beauty is that in addition to having links placed in a press release, you also can have video, images and social media links to name a few additional options. All of this works to drive targeted traffic to your website. I have found it to be a truly uncomplicated strategy that, when done correctly, can produce amazing results for your Internet home business.

Here are a few simple ways I have found to optimize your press release for your home business

Identify The Keywords Or Phrase – Look for targeted keywords or phrases that relate to your particular niche. Do not use cliché type keywords, slang or abbreviations. Think of keywords that people would actually use. Also look for long tail keywords that are less competitive. If you have difficulty with this, try the Google Keywords Tool or Wordtracker (which is a paid tool). These tools will show more targeted keyword searches than the broader keywords which are probably more competitive. Do not keyword stuff otherwise the text will not sound natural. You can also get penalized by the search engine for doing such.

Placement Of Links – Place the links purposefully in your press release as you would on a web page. When placing links in your press release, make sure they include relevant keywords and that the links take the reader to the page on your website that relates to the press release.

Title Of The Press Release – On most press release distribution sites, the title of the press release also serves as the title tag. This is essential because the title tag is crucial when it comes to ranking a website’s page for a keyword or phrase that is being searched.

Synopsis – Utilize keywords or phrases in this section that are not the same as those used in the title. Doing so will take full advantage of exposure to the search engines for the keywords or phrases that are being used.

Body – Search engines will crawl through a press release to harvest sections that include the searched keywords or phrases and use them as a synopsis in the search engine results. Needless to say, optimizing the body of the press release for keywords and phrases is imperative.

Here the basic format for press release for your home based Internet business

Title – Include keyword or phrase and no more than 100 characters.

Summary – Be no more than two sentences long and should have no more than two second tier keywords or phrases.

Body – Be at minimum 300 words and written in the third person. Provide the particulars of the subject of your press release. Include a quote in this section and no more than four keyword phrases.

About Your Website – No more than two sentences written in the third person describing your site. Include an anchor text link to the homepage of your Internet business website.

Contact – Designate yourself as the contact for your website.

Some Additional Things I Consider When Writing A Press Release For Your Internet Home Business:

·	Know Your Target Audience – When preparing to write your press release for your home based internet business, make sure you know who your target audience is and write for them. Also, do not use jargon or hype; write simply and naturally. This will keep you on track and greatly aid in the keyword selection for your press release.

·	Have A Catchy Headline – You need to have a headline for your press release that draws the reader in. Make them want to read your press release. The headline must give the reader a heads-up as to what your press release is about.

·	Have Something Of Value To Say – When you submit a press release it needs to contain information that is newsworthy. Writing about nothing for the sake of issuing a press release will dilute your brand and credibility. As a result you will not generate any traffic to your Internet business website.

·	Get To The Point Quickly – Do not have it so a person has to read half the press release to figure out what it is you are saying. Whatever you have to say about your website goes at the end of the press release.

·	Always Write In The Third Person – Never use the word “you” in any part of your press release. Having “you” written in your press release could get it rejected for “advertising language”.

·	Should Appear To Be Objective – Remember even though you are selling your website, the press release should never appear as an advertisement.

·	Mention Your Competitors – Compare your website to theirs in your press release. This can work to your advantage by generating interest in your press release from news organizations.

·	Quotes In Your Press Release – Quotes act as an attention getter for your press release. Make sure it ties into the message of the press release. You can actually write the quote yourself and try to work a keyword or phrase into the quotation. Also, any promotion of your website can be done here as long as it remains within the quotes. You can also choose to write a humorous quote as long as it relates to the topic of your press release.

·	Write Clearly And Professionally – A press release should not have any grammatical or spelling errors. Again, this ties into your credibility, branding and generating traffic for your Internet business website.

An Optimized Press Release Can Help Drive Traffic To Your Home Based Internet Business

A press release will rank well in the SERPs if it is properly optimized. And if it does rank well on the Internet, it will deliver quality backlinks to your home business website. Those backlinks will aid not only in increasing the position of you website on the search engine results page, but increasing the amount of direct targeted traffic also.

There are at least 2,000 press releases flooding the internet each and every day. So the question is; what can you do to make your press release leave the others in the dust, get noticed and drive targeted traffic to your home business website? The answer is to SEO your press release. That will increase the visibility of your website, drive potential customers to your website and increase your chances to make some money.
